Today, June 28, 2010, the race begins to have the book completed by September 1, 2010.  I will be working overtime this week to focus on photographs, maps, and editing chapters.  Time is short.  For the next two months my focus is 100% on "Caught Between Three Fires."

Andrew J. Coots

The current search involves finding the specific fate of Andrew J. Coots.  In July 1861 when R.T. Van Horn's Home Guards attempted to march through Harrisonville to Austin, a battle with local southern sympathizers took place.  Van Horn indicated in his official report that a "Capt. Coots" was mortally wounded and died the day after the battle.  I believe this was Andrew J. Coots.  His wife and family left the county.  Have been unable to find any record of the family in 1880.  If anyone can verify the fate of Andrew J. Coots or his wife please let me know.  Another piece of the puzzle can fall into place.

Well, today, May 13, 2010 I am well into the publishing process.  Am working to have the manuscript completed by September 1st so that the first books can be available on November 1st.  It has been a struggle for me to keep up with the numerous requests from Xlibris the company that I am using.  The cover of the book is basically completed and it is very powerful.  Hopefully the appearance of the cover will draw folks to pick up the book and read it.  Yesterday I was in Harrisonville working with Carol Bohl.  She is going to assist me in obtaining photographs and maps for the book.  Overall, things are moving along and I am working fulltime on the effort.  If any readers have photographs of Cass County residents please let me know about them.

Friday, April 16, I signed with XLibris in Bloomington, Indiana.  Self publishing the book allows me to retain ownership and easily publish a second addition as more information become available.  We are shooting for a November 1, 2010 launch.  This date will be in advance of the 150 Anniversary of the start of the Civil War.  There is still much work to do but am hopeful that things will fall into place.  The next big effort will be to acquire photographs of key people for the book.
